2014 Indiana State & District 6 Checker Tourney will be held Saturday, August 23rd, 2014 at Joe's Pizza, 911 North E Street, Richmond, IN 47374. "E" Street is 5 blocks north of downtown Richmond in the historic Train Depot district. The restaurant opens at 10 a.m. and we will get started right after opening. 5 rounds in one day, Swiss or Round Robin, and will have Class A and B if number of entries permits. Entry fee $15. Top-scoring Indiana resident in "A" will be State Champion, best Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, or Ohio resident will be District 6 Champ.  Cash and merchandise prizes. Organizer:  Roger Blaine, P.O. FOUR TIE IN INDIANA/DISTRICT 6 CHAMPIONSHIP

    Four tough checker players tied for first in a well-balanced Indiana State and District 6 tourney held at Joe's Pizza in Richmond, Indiana, Aug. 23, 2014. Michael Holmes, Louisville, Ky.;  Pete Schmucker, Shipshewana, Ind.;  John Acker, Columbus, O.; and defending State Champ Greg Wilmoth, Richmond, all scored 13 out of a possible 20.    Holmes was first overall on Honor Points, and Schmucker came out ahead of the others to win the honors of State Champion and District Champion.  District 6 consists of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan.  Schmucker topped Wilmoth twice in their crucial Round 4 match. There were an amazing number of 2-2 splits between top contenders, all of them with one win apiece and no draws: Holmes-Wilmoth, Acker-Miller, Holmes-Acker, Miller-M. Yoder, Holmes-Miller, and Acker-Schmucker.
  Two players named Alex were conspicuously absent from the competition.  Former World Champ Alex Moiseyev from nearby Dublin, Ohio was taking his son to college, and 2012 State Champ Alex Holmes, Sellersburg, Indiana, was playing on a soccer team that day.

  The news media, Richmond Palladium-Item Newspaper "Pal-Item" did an article on the tournament and a short video clip for the local TV which ran in Saturday evening news & nightly.
